Community Point has launched!

Today is the official launch of our new service, Community Point – the door to your local community.
Funded by the National Lottery Community Fund, Community Point is based at Voluntary Action South West Surrey premises in Castle Street and covers the Boroughs of Guildford and Waverley. It’s a new service where anyone can drop in and find out about community activities and services which support wellbeing. To ensure the service can help as many people as possible, the volunteer centre is now open five days a week from 10am-3pm.

To celebrate the launch, there was an event earlier today at the St. Nicholas’s Church in Guildford including a seminar about loneliness. It was a fantastic morning with plenty of interesting discussion and insightful, detailed talks from Carol Dunnett, chief officer at VASWS; Lynda Mussell, Community Point co-ordinator; Dr Susan Denton and Dr David Kirkpatrick from Guildowns Group Practice, speaking about new ways of tackling loneliness and the primary care network approach; Jane Soothill, one of the social prescription link workers at VASWS and also an emotive talk from a volunteer from the Welcome Buddies project.

To use the Community Point service, either pop in to the volunteer centre, or contact us and a trained team of Community Connectors will help you connect to fun social activities in the local area, refer to the volunteer advisors to search for suitable volunteering roles, or provide extra support if needed.
