Volunteering involves spending time, unpaid, to do something that is of benefit to others and/or the local environment. There are volunteering opportunities available across Guildford and Waverley with a wide array of organisations. Voluntary Action South West Surrey works with the voluntary, community and public sectors, supporting organisations to develop volunteering opportunities and their volunteering programmes. We can help guide your search for a suitable volunteer role, either online via Better Impact or through the Volunteer Centre at VASWS.
People volunteer for many different reasons. It is good to have an idea of what motivates you, the skills you can offer and/or hope to develop, and the types of activities you are most interested in. There are hundreds of volunteer roles on our database, so giving this some thought before you begin your search will definitely give you a head start. A successful volunteering experience is rewarding both for you and for the organisation you're supporting. If you cannot find the volunteering role you want, or if you need assistance in finding different roles, setting up and accessing your online account, posting a volunteer role or for anything else, please get in touch by emailing volunteer@vasws.org.uk or calling 01483 504626. You can also come into our office and talk to a volunteer advisor for more tailored opportunities.
The things you can do as a volunteer are endless. Training is usually provided and many organisations will pay your travel expenses so you are not out of pocket from volunteering. While many roles will require you to make a regular commitment there are also roles that are one-off or occasional, meaning you can give as much or as little time as you want.
